AIG Insurance complaint by Eacrosley
At the end of February 2008 I recieved a notice in the mail that my home owners insurance with AIG was about to be cancelled due to nonpayment. Makes sense if you don't pay the bill, but the problem was that I never opened the account. They had no signatures of my husband or I and said it had been opened over the internet.

I told them it was ridiculous and that I, nor my husband ever opened this account. They said that they would close the account and be gracious to waive all fees to do so (for an account I didn't open) as if they were doing me a favor. I asked them to send me a letter stating that this account had been improperly opened. They refused stating that they had no such formatted letter. They told me the account was closed and that there should be no more problems.

Then I get a letter stating that there has been a payment made to the account 2 weeks after I had spoken to AIG. I didn't make the payment and couldn't figure out what was going on, so frantically called them again about the fraudulent account and to find out how they got my money.

Representative I first spoke to said that I had opened the account and made a payment and talked to me as if I were crazy. Then she got tired of me telling her there was a problem, so she told me "woman, just shut the F*** up" and she hung up the phone on me.

I of course called right back and this time demaded a supervisor. Supervisor on phone said he would look into what she said and into the money. Siad that even if you close an account, the accounting department doesn't know that and will still take your money. But we still don't know where it came from.

Finally, after a lot of searching, I figured out where they got the money from. They solicited for it from my mortgage company, without permission. Called to tell them this and was told they would send back my money immediatly. And there was no harm done and no problem. Said that by sending it back then they had done nothing wrong and wasn't entitled to an apology. Asked repeatedly for them to send me something in writting in case this issue comes up again but was told "no they will not send anything".

Now come to find out they took money that should have gone to the real insurance company beacuse they replaced the true insurance company with their information, so I have to jump through more hoops to get things put back to the way they were when we closed on the house only 5 months ago. No hassel and no problem. Not exactly true AIG.

My solution to their crookedness is to inform and alert as many people as possible to this companies behavior and actions and to hopefully cost them future business. After all, i'm just a normal every day person who got a quote 2 1/2 months prior to them opening an account. Beware getting a quote from this or this may be you in a few months.

P.S. There quote was almost double everyone else I asked (7 companies total) so don't waste your time with them.

AIG is a crooked, fraudulent snake of a company. They just slammed my mortgage account with $24.90/mo claiming that my wife authorized it. She did nothing of the sort. We even discussed the call after she told them no. Bastards!

I have AIG auto insurance, and so far; so good. Thank God!! On the occasions I've had to talk with them, I have received prompt and very courteous service.

I've been hesitant though for some reason with switching my home owners' insurance over to AIG for some odd reason.

My home owners' insurance on the other hand is with Nationwide, and on two occasions, I had breakins in my home, losing items that were very important to me. My displeasure with them was with the customer service I received when attempting to file claims. It appeared as though the persons were working from home and were very unprofessional, but more than that, Nationwide refused to replace my products with what I had had stolen, i.e., in my book, a Compaq PC is not comparable to an Acer! Now, I'll step down off my box.

I had AIG as my auto insurance company and they gave me good service untill I had to remove one of our cars from the policiy because we no longer owned it then added a new truck to the policy. They re did my policy which was fine and I paid the 143 for the monthly payment then came time to renew and they said i was 2 months behind on it and owed them 2 months plus another 143 for the next month. I was like no I don't I have my statements and my payment record right here infront of me. What they didn't know is I pay my bills threw my banks wedsite and I have proff of all my payments and I even paid for 2 months inadvance. Well needless to say they still say I owe them money for the policy and have yet to cancel my insurance. I haven't paid them either because I feel they have done me wrong and are trying to charge me for months that have already been paid for. they say I owe them like 500 bucks or more but I don't because i told them I wasn't going to renew my insurance. They tried to rip me off and I don't want to deal with them anymore!

AIG Insurance is certainly the largest insurance company on the market, but that does not mean they are responsive, competitive or necessary. I have eliminated AIG as a life insurance carrier, Auto insurance carrier and I am searching for a new home owners carrier. This company is a shining example of why corporate america if failing abroad. Each week a new story breaks on how this company has failed its customers and clients. It's time to boycott this company at every level and look for a company who willing to honor committments and earn the respect of the consumer!
